Math is like a spiral because its concepts build upon each other in cycles, constantly revisiting foundational ideas with increasing complexity.
 
 
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Big 4 for Kindergarten

1. Number & Quantity: count & build quantities by ones & tens to 100; count on from any given number; subitize within 5; compare & order groups of objects & numerals to 10; identify & write numerals to 20; compose & decompose teens with a base of 10 & understand the concept "10 & some more."

2. Algebra & Functions: compute addition & subtraction with objects or numerals within 10; use story problems.
​​
3. Data, Statistics & Probability: understand positional words; classify objects; understand & utilize measurement concepts, such as size & length, weight & balance, capacity & volume; collect, organize, interpret & compare data, including picture & bar graphs, & the concepts of more, less, fewer, same.
​​
4. Geometry: recognize & make patterns; recognize, describe, create, sort, & compare basic 2-D shapes & 3-D solids.
